An explosion at an Indiana Township gas well Friday morning killed two workers and ignited a fire that burned for 10 hours before being extinguished. The shallow oil well, which is owned by Monroeville-based Huntley & Huntley, has produced natural gas since it was drilled two years ago. The well is 3,500 feet deep.

How safe are these gas wells? Are there shallow geological factors involved or was this purely a man-made mishap or both? Is this again the Delayed Gas Blowout caused by gas leaking from the reservoir through an undetected pathway outside the cemented well bore and accumulating underground until it has gained "critical igniting gas volume"?
If anyone has more information (surface or underground) please forward them here or to my email for further analysis. Thank you.
