'Unusual mortality event' for dolphins not unheard of

In March of 2010, 56 dolphins washed ashore in the Gulf, compared to the seven-year average of 16 for the month.
Mass die-offs of dolphins are not unheard of. Fifty-three dolphins washed up on South Carolina beaches this year, and three or four such events typically occur each year around the country.
The majority of the time, the official cause of death is listed as "undetermined," according to federal records.
What’s unusual about what is happening in the Gulf is the duration of the die-off, now well into its second year. It’s possible, scientists said, that whatever killed dolphins in March of 2010 — be it a cold winter, scarce food supplies, or a virus — meant the population was already in a weakened position when the Gulf spill began.

Though many believe a link between the BP oil spill and the elevated death rate seems obvious, dolphins actually began dying a month before the spill.

In March of 2010, 56 dolphins washed ashore in the Gulf, compared to the seven-year average of 16 for the month.

BP started drilling in Feb 2010. They had a lot of drilling problems reentering well A which had been left open (illegal to leak gas...both hydrocarbon and H2S) for 3 months since Transocean pulled out Marianas drilling rig from well A on 9 Nov 2009.

BP was losing fantastic amount of drilling mud, which resurfaced back to the seafloor thru the well anulus and thru the fractures at the sides of the salt domes.

By early March they were having serious problems with well B (the second well drilled) and similar gas from the Rigel gas reservoir was obvious seeping out in huge quantities. They had to plug the hole 750 ft above the problem interval .....a concession allowed by MMS despite the disastrous consequences. Well MMS was subservient to BP instead of Regulating BP.

On or around 16 March 2010, BP spud the 3rd well and again the amount of drilling mud spilled is humongous. And to counter the gas all the way from 0 to 18,300ft bml, they had to keep the mud weight high. So where do you think the gases escaped to?

We always look at the Gulf Disaster as starting from 20 April 2010. No it started way before BP even spud the well in 2009. If they were losing so much drilling mud, they should have stopped to think....but NO they kept driving even faster over the cliff.

So it was no surprise the dolphins in the gulf started to die in abnormal numbers in March 2010. To me it makes perfect sense to link BP oil spill to the abnormal deaths of the dolphins.

A month before the BIG spill was orginally reported... Who knows how long it had been going on prior to the BIG blowout that make it impossible to cover up? Who knows what shoddy practices contributed to the amount of toxic goo entering the sea water before it couldn't be covered up?

It makes perfect sense to me, too.

Poor dolphins! I wish we could catch them all and move them to somewhere safe, which is where???? No where...

I know it.

Nothing to do about it, but duck. you make sure that YOU duck.

God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference. I say that every day. It seems to help.

True, that's the only thing to keep us sane. Still it hurts each time we are reminded of those poor helpless animals dying thru no faults of theirs.

It kills me. I can't STAND it.

But, there is a reason, and purpose, and to all things a time and a season. They aren't suffering any more, and I feel, with all my heart, that they, too, find peace in the end. So, I'm a nut.

You know, there are worse things than dying. First and foremost, swimming in a completely toxic environment, trapped with no way out. The poor little babies are at peace, finally. May God bless them!

Please be sure to duck. I'm always here if you need me.

(((((((Dowser)))))))) Yes I will.

You know when we trapped within our residence by the Fugro hired Thugs for 6 months. We could have escaped but we just couldn't leave our dogs behind. As if they knew our predicament, all five of our most precious dogs died one after another mysteriously. No they were not poisoned but developed sudden illness and died days or weeks later. Very strange indeed.

It is a heart wrenching story. Maybe I will tell it on the vine when the hurt is gone.

Are you sure it wasn't induced? Remember that they are more environmentally sensitive than we are.

Escape if you need to--

MUCH love to you and your dear wife. I can't help but worry about you.

I used to worry about my future. The hell with that. The way Our Government is... I worry now more for MILO then myself.

It seems just when a man get's settled in life a SWAT TEAM will bust through his door and they'll shoot your Best Friend, (The Dog) Then pump 77 Rounds into you as if the First 3-4 Rounds were not enough to Kill you, They want to make SURE YOUR DEAD!!!

And it could be just because you had a small baggie of Pot that was less then 1oz. But Enough to take your life for. THE POLICE STATE!

There was a story a few years back where the govt sent in shooters to kill mercilessly about 25 dogs which had been strays taken in by a retiree living alone. They cause no harm to any one maybe a little noise. The owner begged them to give him time to move the dogs out. No dice they shot about a doz while the owner desperately stuff another dozen into his car to escape.

It was a massacre but none of the officers were ever charged for murder. Those poor dogs must have been terrified being shot at close range. These are the same bastards propping up the corrupt govt.

Really good seed, BK Lim, and your introductory comment is one of the best I've seen. You not only put the information in the article into a historical context for the reader, but you provided valuable additional information. Good job. I've clipped your seed to my column.

Thanks Paul.

There is actually more to the BP disaster. The Main Media "intentionally" do not tell the truth, only what BP wants to minimise their PR damage.

There are videos implicating of BP of criminality. Wait for more explosive exposures to come.

Mr. Lim,

Don't spill the beans on the other story yet. OK? Let me see if I too can dig and get more info on what else I shared with you. I think this is or could be more related.

My prayers to you and family.

I have been told recently that "Mother" nature does not exist and that in order to create some revenue to bring down our debt the government should sell off public land. It is like they do not understand that as inhabitants of this planet are all co-dependent. These stories make me cry. We as a race are destroying the world for everyone & everything. It is so sad.

Growing up between La. and Miss. my grandfather shrimped all his life, life his father before him. I always thought the seafood would be there for generations to come. Then came BP...and thanks to them, and our government, there are families that have lost their livelihood, and for the most destroyed an industry. And for what?

The dolphins are just part of the food chain there, they feed off those fish that feed off the bottom feeders, and IMO, that's where the problem is. What BP used to "clean up the oil", did nothing but form into small balls, and sink to the bottom. Shrimp, crabs, some fish are feeding on this. But not according to BP, all the seafood is good and safe. If it is, my challenge to them is...feed it to YOUR family, not mine.

They had been telling lies; so they need to continue telling lies. Have you seen the new explosive videos on 22 - 23 Apr. Here check them out. It will surprise you. Then you know why they had to lie.

Those are sad, but doesn't surprise me. What did surprise me was how quick all of this was "suppose to have been cleaned up". What doesn't surprise me, was how fast the government fell into bed with BP. Hell, they haven't even settled Texas City yet. So I'm sure they'll try and squeak through on this one.

But you can't put a money value on the sea life that's being destroyed. But I'm sure they'll try.
