Because each lie has to be supported by more lies to appear credible.

They have to keep lying because when the lying stops, the truth appears

Unlike truths which last for eternity, lies have short half-life...defined as <50% believable. 

The truth exposed lies but lies substantiate the truth. 

Lies exist because of the truth. In other words, lies cannot exists in the absence truth. Hence the saying ...the truth must be out there somewhere.
